I can still remember the moment I brought my daughter home from the hospital and sat her car seat down on the kitchen table. I looked at this tiny sleeping human and I felt as though she had just filled a hole in my life that I hadn't even realised existed. I just wanted to look at her for hours!
Nothing prepares you for a new baby, whether they are your first or your fifth, and it's so important to me to capture the details of their first few weeks of life so that in years to come, you can look back with pride at the beautiful life you created and nurtured.
I've been photographing newborns for several years now, and along with this experience I have invested in training to ensure your precious baby is safe and comfortable at all times. Trust is the most important factor in choosing a newborn photographer, and you can be assured that I treat every baby as though they were my own. I never lose sight of the fact that when you hand me your baby to photograph, you are handing me the most important piece of yourself.
I try to capture newborn sessions within the first two weeks of baby's life, as this is when babies are at their sleepiest, and sleep deeply enough to allow me to pose them. But don't worry if you miss this window, I can photograph older newborns too! Your session will last around 3 hours and I pride myself on making it a relaxing and enjoyable experience for you. When you arrive for your session I will ask you to undress and feed your baby, so we start the session with a full and sleepy baby. Then I will take baby from you - don't worry, you are always very close by! - and you sit back and relax while I work. I have a comfortable studio with tea and coffee on hand - it's not unusual for parents to get a bit sleepy too, as it's probably the most you will have sat down in a while!
I have a wide range of props, colours and fabrics and I ask clients to complete a short questionnaire before their shoot, so that I can ensure I am using colours and set-ups that will work within your home. I aim to give you as much variety as possible in your images and to show off your beautiful baby in poses that are natural and comfortable.
If you'd like a detailed walk through a newborn session, to see exactly what goes on (and why it takes so long!) check out my blog page where you can find a detailed guide to what to expect - and why I do what I do - throughout your session.
Images normally take around 2 weeks from the date of your session. At the end of your session we will book a date for you to return to the studio to see your finished images and make your final decisions on your chosen package.
