ABOUT ME
HELLO

BASILDON BABY PHOTOGRAPHER: MY STORY

Welcome to Picture You!

I’m Jo, and I started Picture You back in late 2013 after falling in love with children’s photography through my own children, born in 2007 and 2009.

Safety & Training

Safety is my number one concern in my studio. I have been trained on a 1-1 basis by one of the UK’s award-winning photographers and leading UK photography trainers. I have also completed online training in newborn safety, including safe posing and handling.  I am fully insured and CRB checked.  I have regularly updated Health & Safety Policies for my studio and you are welcome to see these.

Values & Beliefs

I have three core beliefs which cover everything I do in my studio:

  • Real Photography for Real Families.  This means I want to capture you and your family as you really are – just the most beautiful version of yourselves! I believe in natural poses, and comfortable children.  My editing style highlights natural beauty whilst keeping your children looking like your children!
  • Building a lasting relationship with my clients.  When I get a booking from a new family, it’s the start of a long relationship where I capture memories of your family as they grow.  I’m there to capture all your major milestones for as long as you need me.
  • It’s about you, not me.  This is your shoot, not mine! These pictures end up on your walls, and they need to be what you want.  So every shoot is about flexibility, about giving you as much as I can, and using my style and my experience to guide you.

My Promise to You

For me, the experience of your photo shoot is just as important as your images. My sessions are relaxed and comfortable.  At all times I’m led by you and your baby or children, giving them what they need in order to get you the images you want.  Sometimes that’s extra time, sometimes that’s play.  Sometimes it’s a bit of space, and sometimes it’s firm direction.  I have many years experience with young children – I also spent several years in primary schools working as a school governor – and I can quickly assess their personality, and adapt my approach to suit them.

I never force babies into poses they aren’t comfortable with, and I start every session by reassuring parents that they will be right next to me the whole time, able to see what I’m doing and able to speak up with questions or concerns at any time.  I’m never put off by shy children, reluctant teenagers or nervous parents!

I’m here to answer any questions or concerns you have, feel free to contact me on the “Get In Touch” page.  You can also find me on Facebook if you’d like a quick chat!

MY PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO - DESIGNED WITH FAMILIES IN MIND

I have a dedicated photography studio next to my home, and it’s designed to be as warm and welcoming as possible.  Studios can be intimidating for little ones (and us grown ups!) but having a space that feels like a home makes children relax and feel comfortable.  If you’re coming with a newborn, the studio will be warm and safe with space for you to feed, change and cuddle whenever you need to.  There’s also tea, coffee or cold drinks available, and toilet facilities inside my home.

There's plenty of easy parking available and I'm easty to find, just off the A13 at Pitsea and a five minute walk from Pitsea railway station. With easy access from the A13, A127 and A130 I'm visited by families from all over Essex, North Kent and South East London.
